The Department of Critical Care Medicine came into existence in the year 2020. It was established to cater the multidisciplinary management of critically ill medical and surgical patients. The Department of Critical Care Medicine is supervised by senior dedicated faculty members. There are senior residents and junior residents who are involved in the teaching, training and clinical management of critically ill patients. The ICU is well-staffed with highly specialised nurses with bed to nurse ratio of 1:1, as well as technicians, physiotherapists, dieticians, and ancillary staff. The department also has dedicated 24x7 Rapid Response Team (RRT) which facilitates the timely escalation of treatment outside the ICU.
The department was actively involved in the management of patients during the COVID pandemic with the region’s lowest mortality among critically ill COVID-19 patients. The department has been conducting regular training sessions and workshops for doctors, nurses and paramedical staff. The department is committed to provide a world-class critical care facility with enhanced clinical and technological services at affordable cost to every section of the society. The critical care medicine department also provides services to the other critical care units across various departments such as Paediatrics, Cardiology, CTVS and others. The department also provides excellent opportunities for research activities and various national and international projects are currently underway.
